The first grade classes created personal quilt squares after learning about the work of Faith Ringgold. Students were asked to represent themselves flying like the character in Faith Ringgold's work "Tar Beach". The quilt squares became a celebration of individuality because students also had to add details about themselves that made them unique on the borders of the quilt square.
