Unit Standards, Goals, and Objectives Unit Goal
Our unit will expand student’s perceptions of themselves and their community by helping them find themselves in relationship to the rest of the world. We started broad, with the ideal world or cities and progressively narrowed the lesson topic closer to the student in each lesson. Within each lesson we used the word Ideal to ask students how all of these aspects could be improved in their lives.

Lesson one: Creating Ideal Cities
Goal: Students will learn that the world they live in is truly huge and because of that the possibilities and opportunities presented in front of them are limitless.

Lesson two: Clay Creatures
Goal: Students will identify positive characteristics within themselves and others and recreate these characteristics in their clay creatures. As a result students will understand that clay can be used to represent their ideas.

Lesson three: Special Power Masks
Goal: Students will learn about the importance of masks through different cultures and be able to relate it to their lives to make a mask of their own.

Lesson four: Visual Narrative about Special Power Masks
Goal: Students will learn to combine storytelling and art to add deeper meaning to their own art making experiences.

Lesson five: Creating Ideal Rooms using Plaster Frescoes
Goal: Students will understand that paintings come in more forms than just paper or canvas, and appreciate the practice of brainstorming and planning in creating works of art.
